Poppies are the universal symbol of remembrance made famous by the British in their annual remembrance day for WWI. I am drawn to the simple beauty of poppies blooming in my garden. They are short lived blooms but when they are blooming they captivate attention.
Summer Poppies features large cartoonized drawings of poppies that are in a magenta or coral pink red with foliage in shades of green all on a field that is sandy beige. The pattern repeats but offers lots of variety so that when you tie it the scarf can look different each time.
The scarf begins as white silk, with gutta resist in silver. Once the design is drawn on the silk it is stretched onto a frame where paint is applied. Resist acts as boundary to prevent paint from running outside the lines. The painted scarf is then steamed to permanently set the color and fuse the resist to the silk fiber. It is now color fast, and hand washable.
