So I paint silk... and this scarf is a series of my sketches of medieval drawings of crowns... each of the botanical elements are symbolic in scripture. Formed into crowns there is a deeper 👑👑Thistle is a reminder of poverty, and how the ground will always require work.
👑Myrtle is a tree in Israel- and when myrtle is woven into a crown it is symbolic of victory. The Hebrew word Hadassah is derived from the word myrtle.

👑Lilly of the valley is a glorious flower imported to europe in the Middle Ages from Japan. Delicate white bell flowers and big leaves are classic flowers of May... but this is a very poisonous plant, and the symbology is of death and suffering.
The process: white silk is layer flat on top of my drawing, gutta resist is applied , copying the drawing lines onto the silk. The silk is stretched on a frame, and specific fiber paint is applied. When dry the silk is rolled in newspaper and steamed for an hour to set the color and heat fuse the gutta resist. The scarf is then washed and ironed, and ready to wear.
