One of the most striking summer flowers is the fuchsia. Growing up my neighbor had huge hanging baskets of them, and they were striking. Inspired by my old neighbor I searched for Art noveau drawings that featured this flower. A wallpaper border print was what i utilized for this scarf.
The scarf is habotai silk, a semi light weight silk, which began as completely white. I drew the outlining of the surface pattern using gold toned gutta resist. Once the resist was dry i stretched the silk on a frame, and painted using specific fiber paint. The silk was then steamed to permanently set the color and fuse the resist to the silk.
This scarf features vined leaves with large fuchsia blooms draping down. Deep greens on the leaves, magenta and violet blooms pop against an azure sky background.
Silk is easy to wear, hand washable and color fast.
