Inspired by my patch of Allium in bloom last summer i sketched out these busy bees attending to the flower buts, The flowers are a soft light violet, on tall stalks of deep green. The bees are traditional black and white with iridescent wings all against the azure sky. The scarf is habotai silk, which is a lightweight silk measuring 11" x 60",
The scarf begins as white silk, with gutta resist in silver. Once the design is drawn on the silk it is stretched onto a frame where paint is applied. Resist acts as boundary to prevent paint from running outside the lines. The painted scarf is then steamed to permanently set the color and fuse the resist to the silk fiber. It is now color fast, and hand washable.
